Decimal Hours
Why convert time to decimals?
When you bill by the hour, you multiply time by a rate — and that only works cleanly if your time is a decimal. “1 hour and 45 minutes” is not 1.45 hours; it is 1.75 hours. Getting this wrong is a common cause of under- or over-billing on invoices and payroll timesheets.
The rule is simple: divide the minutes by 60. So 15 minutes is 0.25, 30 minutes is 0.5, and 45 minutes is 0.75. The converter above does it instantly for any value, including awkward ones like 20 or 50 minutes.
Once your time is in decimal form, plug it into the hourly rate calculator to see exactly what a session is worth, and read our time tracking strategies for ways to log time more accurately in the first place.
