Tasks, priorities, and deadlines
Add tasks to a project, flag them with a priority, set deadlines with date and time, and read the urgency colors.

Tasks split a project into pieces of work you can track time on individually. Both projects and tasks can carry an optional priority flag and a deadline with an exact date and time.
Adding a task
- Select the project in the sidebar.
- On the Tasks tab, click the + button next to the Tasks heading.
- In the New Task sheet, enter a Task Name and optional Notes.
- Optionally turn on Set Deadline and pick a date and time (the picker defaults to one week out).
- Click Add. The button stays disabled while the name is empty.
Priority is not set in this sheet; you add it later from the task's toolbar. On the free plan a project can hold at most 5 tasks; hitting the limit opens the Premium screen (see Can't create a new project or task).
Working in the task detail view
Click a task row to open it. The header shows the parent project's name (click it to jump back) and the task name. Click the name to rename it inline; it saves when you press Return or click away. Below that you'll find the collapsible Notes editor, the live Total Time counter, Earnings (hourly projects only), the Start Tracking button, and the Time Entries list, covered in Tracking time.
In fixed-rate projects, tasks show no earnings and no per-task billing state; the fixed price and billing state live on the project itself.
Priorities
- Click the flag button in the project or task toolbar (it shows an outline when no priority is set).
- Pick Low (blue), Medium (yellow), High (orange), or Urgent (red) from the popover.
The colored flag then appears on the project or task row, with a tooltip naming the priority. To clear it, hover the flag button (it turns into an X) and click.
Deadlines
- Click the calendar button in the toolbar.
- Turn on Set Deadline, pick a date and time, and click Done.
The toolbar then shows the deadline as relative text (for example "in 3 days") tinted by urgency:
- Due soon: within 7 days (yellow)
- Due in 24 hours: orange
- Overdue: red
The same tints appear as a colored edge bar on sidebar project rows and as a background tint on task rows. Once an item is Billed or Paid it shows Completed instead, and urgency colors disappear. Archived projects don't show them either.
To surface everything that's overdue or urgent across all projects, use the View Options filters. See Finding things: search, filters, and sorting.
