What is TimeBill?

TimeBill is a native macOS app for time tracking, project management, and invoicing, built for freelancers and small businesses. It requires macOS 14.6 or later and is available on the Mac App Store (free, with an optional TimeBill Premium upgrade) and as a direct subscription on the Setapp marketplace.

What you can do with TimeBill

• Track time on tasks with live timers or manual entries, including a small floating timer window for distraction-free work.
• Organize projects and tasks with priorities, deadlines, and billing states, grouped into Active and Archived sections in the sidebar.
• Manage customers in the dedicated Customer Management window and assign one to each project.
• See your numbers on the Dashboard: interactive weekly charts, total tracked time, earned vs. billed, and your payment ratio.
• Generate invoices as archival PDF/A-3b documents, including compliant electronic invoices: hybrid ZUGFeRD/Factur-X for sellers in Germany, Factur-X for sellers in France, and standalone XRechnung 3.0 XML for German public-sector clients. Small-business VAT exemptions (like Kleinunternehmer § 19 UStG in Germany or franchise en base in France) and SEPA payment QR codes are supported too.
• Keep every exported invoice in the Invoice Vault, a searchable archive with paid/unpaid tracking, preview, printing, and re-export.
• Export your work as timesheet PDFs, CSV files for billing, or a JSON project export.

Your data stays on your Mac

TimeBill is offline-first: everything is stored in a local database on your Mac. There is no cloud service, no iCloud sync, no account, and no analytics, tracking, or ads. Free, Premium, and Setapp

The Mac App Store version is free to use with these limits: 10 projects (archived projects count toward the limit), 5 tasks per project, 5 cost items per project, 5 entries in the Cost Item Catalog, and a watermark on invoice PDFs. TimeBill Premium (a one-time Lifetime purchase or a yearly or monthly subscription) removes all of these. The details are in free vs. TimeBill Premium.

On Setapp, TimeBill is sold as its own subscription on the Setapp marketplace (it is not part of the classic all-apps Setapp bundle) and comes fully unlocked: no limits, no watermark, and no purchase screens at all.

Languages and currency

The app interface ships in English and German and follows your Mac's system language. Invoice and timesheet PDFs follow the system language too, but their labels ship in seven languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese). Amounts inside the app follow your Mac's region; the currency printed on an invoice is chosen in the invoice generator. More in invoice languages and currency.
